| Core
Values of the Northwest Region: |
Unity
(Ephesians 4:3-6)
As Disciples, we value Christian unity. The unity
of the church is not a human construct that we
enact through voting. Our unity is a gift of God,
a sign of God’s glorious hope for the world.
As Christians, our baptism makes us one with Christians
of every time and place. This unity does not imply
uniformity. Instead, it calls for us to live with
integrity even as we live within contexts that
are diverse in many ways. We value God’s
great gift of unity, and will joyfully seek to
worship and work with traditional and new ecumenical
partners.
|
Transformation
(II Corinthians 5:16-18)
We believe that through Jesus Christ, God has
the power to overcome evil with good, and hopelessness
with hope. Each of us is a living testimony of
the power of God to transform human lives. We
value God’s transformation and will seek
to develop among our congregations enhanced ability
to share faith in ways that bring people of no
faith to faith in Jesus Christ.
|
Relationships
(Romans 12:3-8; Galatians 3:28)
No Region can be defined as just staff or an office.
So then, the Northwest Region is comprised of
congregations throughout Washington, Northern
Idaho and Alaska. We are congregations filled
with women, men, youth, and children who are connected
together by faith and geography, for the glory
of God and the advancement of God’s people.
Each of us is unique and valuable to God and ministry
as lived out in relationship with other Christians
in the tradition of Jesus Christ. Simply put,
we need each other. Our futures are inextricably
woven together. Therefore, we value and encourage
worship and work that benefit from create in partnerships
across the Region.. No part of the Region is an
island of itself. The stronger the partnerships
across the Region, the stronger the Region will
be.
|
Justice
(Micah 6:8; Luke 10:25-37)
Throughout the Bible, God demonstrates intolerance
for human suffering and disenfranchisement, and
empowers humans to speak out for justice, for
making wrong things right. We value justice and
will seek to be an instrument of God in the establishment
of social, economic and political structures that
reflect God’s vision of human wholeness,
dignity and respect. We also value environmental
justice, maintaining that the earth is a gift
of God that humanity must honor and protect.
