2010 Regional Assembly - Wrap Up

2010 Regional Assembly

May 21-23, 2010      North Hill Christian Church, Spokane, WA

Woven from the threads of our Mission and Vision statements, our guiding scripture and Regional Mission Plan the theme for the 2010 Regional Assembly of the Northwest Regional Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) invited us to celebrate the ways we are already engaged in mission even as it challenged us to seek out new ways to be God’s presence in our communities and beyond. We reconnected as the Northwest Family when we gathered for worship, community building, table fellowship and learning opportunities and as we reaffirmed our call to be Poured Out in Mission.

We Blogged!

We Were Busy!
Pre-Assembly Mission Event
Pre-Assembly Mission Event On Friday, before the Assembly officially began, a small but eager group of volunteers filled the Narthex of North Hill Christian Church. This group was tasked with cleaning the entire emergency women’s shelter called Hope House in Spokane.  They scrubbed the bathrooms, lockers, kitchen, shelter beds and rooms and offices. Hope House was established at a time when single women with no shelter in Spokane were being attacked.

Children's Program & Mission
Items for Homeless Packets Needed

We asked congregations to collect the following items and bring them to Regional Assembly where the kids could create packets to be given to homeless folks.

• Toothbrushes • Tooth Paste • Gum • Granola Bars • Instant Oatmeal Packets • Throat Lozenges
• Band Aids • Packets of Hot Chocolate • Individual Drink Mix Packets

The response was tremendous! The Narthex of North Hill Christian Church was filled several times with the results of the donations and a group of about ten dedicated children were on hand to put the packets together with Dixie Carringer leading the way. At the end of Saturday, over 300 packets were ready for folks to take back to their churches to distribute to homeless in their areas. We learned that keeping such packets on hand in your car or handbag can be a great way to respond quickly and effectively to a person in need.

Congregational Mission Fair and Ecumenical Displays
2010 Assembly Congregational Mission Fair Displays Hazen Hall was filled to the brim with a great variety of displays. From congregations we learned about language programs and crop walks, Zephyr and Gwinwood gave us great views of the camp and conference grounds. Disiples Seminary Foundation, Northwest Christian University and Church World Service, Global Ministries and the Stewardship Task Force of the NW Region all provided us with an opportunity to learn more. Were you there? Did you learn something new and share it with your congregation?

Food and Fellowship
2010 Assembly Clergy Breakfast

On Saturday morning, 70 clergy and their families gathered at a pancake breakfast hosted by Country Homes Christian Church. During the day, North Hill Christian Church kept assembly goers well supplied with food and drink too. Saturday evening, 185 people enjoyed the hospitality of Country Homes Christian Church as a community meal was shared, catered by Spokane Meals on Wheels.

Thank you again to all those congregations and individuals who brought donations for Spokane's Second Harvest Food Bank and for the packets for the homeless.
