The congregational sponsored intern program is a ten-week internship. The internship focuses on developing leadership skills. These leadership skills are based in three core areas—theology (an individual’s understanding of God), anti-racism, and justice.

During the ten-week internship the intern will participant and lead workshops and workgroups. This is an intensive time during which the intern searches for their place in the local community, find ways to express their growth, and take charge and responsibility for projects and events.

The internship does not begin nor end with the ten-week period. Rather the internship calls the intern to plan and reflect on their experience, which leads them to ponder their time at the Mission over the course of a year.

Winter/Spring

• Apply for the Congregational Sponsored Intern position.
• Raise $2500.
• Gather a Reflection Group of five (5) people from the intern’s home congregation. (This means meeting with and working with the congregational pastor to ask for congregational support—such as prayer—and whom might sit on the Reflection Group.
• Write a (1 st) Reflection Paper with 300 words on each of these subjects: God/Creator, Anti-racism, and Justice. (These are reflective pieces and cannot be done wrong…Talk about what you think.)
• Meet with the Reflection Group for about an hour and talk about the paper. (This is not about processing the intern’s thoughts, but processing the group’s thoughts in light of the paper with the intern leading the time.)

Summer

• Once a week meet with a Mission Guide and talk about how personal theology is being affected.
• Once a week meet with a Mission Guide and talk about: Culture, Anti-racism, and Justice.
• Lead volunteers through one workshop per week and participate in all other workshops.
• Work with Learning & Serving Groups on a daily basis.
• Learn and lead Learning & Serving Groups in one of the working areas of the Mission: Summer Fun Program, JustLiving Home Build, Mission Farm.
• At six weeks, write a 500-word biography paper.
• During week eight and nine write a (2 nd) Reflection Paper with 500 words on: God/Creator, Anti-racism, and Justice.

Fall

• Meet with the home congregation Reflection Group for one to two hours and lead a discussion based on the second reflection paper.
• Make a presentation about personal growth (emotional, mental, spiritual) over the ten-week period on one of the three subjects found in the Reflection Papers. (Examples are: Preaching at the home congregation, presenting at a regional event, providing a slideshow to a Regional Youth Council) once at the home congregation after meeting with the Reflection Group on one of the three subjects found in the Reflection Papers.
